Aberlour – Let The Deed Show

Double cask, double depth.

A fine example of our slow philosophy is our double cast maturation. The raw spirit first
matures in handpicked Spanish sherry casks and American bourbon barrels.

After at least 12 years, the two liquids are carefully married to create a unique range of complex flavours that distinguish our single malts from all others.

Drop of Luck

Every year we pour a bottle of 12-year old Aberlour into the Spey to mark the beginning of the salmon fishing season in February. The water blessing encourages a good fishing season for the locals.

Description

Our discrete distillery sits at a magical location where the Lour burn joins the River Spey,
in the village of Aberlour, Scotland.

Aberlour, translates in Gaelic as ‘Mouth of the chattering burn’, which refers to the exceptionally crisp water from which the distillery draws its soft spring water from.

With a history that stretches back over a thousand years and lying in the heart of Speyside, Aberlour is perfectly placed to accept all of nature’s bountiful gifts.

About Aberlour

The Aberlour distillery was founded by James Fleming, who set out to fulfil a lifelong dream; to create a more luxurious Speyside single malt whisky. As the No. 4 Single Malt in Europe and the No. 1 Single Malt in France, the third biggest Single Malt market, Aberlour looks to continuously excite its consumers and believes that actions speak louder than words, which heroes Fleming’s family motto, “Let the Deed Show”.

The 12 year-old expression is a fine example of how the distinctively crisp, citrus character of Aberlour’s raw spirit is deftly softened by double cask maturation.

Traditional oak and seasoned Sherry butts are both used to great effect, as the mellowed spirits within are combined to deliver a subtly balanced flavour.

Deed No.7
Local barley, GENUINE Character

A few miles down the road from our distillery is where the barley grows that gives our whisky its remarkably distinctive character.

Description

Introducing Aberlour 14 Years Old. A new expression, produced in individual batches, that celebrates the best that nature has to offer and a belief that sometimes, less is more.

Our artisanal philosophy combines the makers’ careful craft with a deep understanding and respect for the natural maturation process. This approach allows the finest, now locally sourced, barley and pure Birke bush spring water to retain their inherent character; imparting soft and gentle hints of blackcurrant and citrus to our unique new-make distillate. Signature flavour notes that are still discernible in the final aged product.

We then lay down the whisky and nurture it for 14 years in only the very best handpicked Oloroso sherry casks for aromatic ginger notes, and a higher proportion of first fill American oak casks for a deep, rich, creaminess. What emerges from the cask is rich yet rounded. Subtle yet spicy. Bold yet elegant.

This is Aberlour 14 Years Old –a delicate balance of nature and nurture.

A longstanding LEGACY

Our founder James Fleming, built the Penny Bridge after a young boy’s life was claimed by the fast flowing Spey. He was the type of man who looked for no reward or recognition for his kindness.

Description

Greater age adds body and a rich raisin character to Aberlour’s characteristic depth and spiciness. Matured in the highest quality casks, where it develops deep Bourbon and Oloroso Sherry flavours, this is the richest and most indulgent Aberlour expression.

Perfect in structure and memorably eloquent.
