Rare & Limited IBs

What are independent bottlings, you may ask? While distilleries make all the whisky, they're not responsible for every bottle you see. Companies dedicated to carefully selecting often rare and limited casks and bottling them are referred to as independent bottlers.

As part of a special collaboration between 61M and The Whisky Notes, we got our hands on these rare and limited whiskies just for you, two of which has Malaysian fingerprints all over it.

Eiling Lim’s Philosophy

“I have very strict requirements in selecting casks to be bottled. Together with my husband, we try 20 to 30 different casks on average every time we choose a whisky to bottle.”

“I have no fixed schedule in releasing my whisky bottlings because I believe in choosing quality casks which are affordable. If I don’t find anything I consider worthy to be bottled, then there will be no releases,” she stressed.

“Bottling is my passion so it’s not just a business. Therefore, I select only the best to be bottled because my name is at stake.”

Description

Malaysia's very own independent bottler, Eiling & her husband, Luc Timmermans’ love of whisky launched her bottling label in 2014. Along with single cask whiskies, she has also bottled several gins & barrel-aged vermouths as part of her offerings. This specific Bowmore was released in 2017 and showcases a delicate Bowmore that, in Eiling's words, " Feels like eating a ripe passionfruit on Lagavulin Bay on a windy morning".

With only 68 bottles produced, now that’s rare!

Lessons in the Dram

The bar name '61Monarchy' comprises of three elements. The first part gives hints to the bar's location. The 'Monarchy' refers to royalty, which inspired our logo and the idea of being the best in what we do. The last is a personal aspiration of the bar’s founder, Andrew Tan. He loves the story of the Monarch butterfly, which spend generations to complete their migration. In a sense, he hopes 61Monarchy will be a place to train and birth the future generation of bartenders.

Description

This Bowmore is a joint bottling between eight whisky bars in Asia Pacific, one of which being Malaysia's very own 61 Monarchy – located in Damansara Uptown. This rare bottling is not one you can get off the shelves of your local grocer. The whisky was drawn from a cask filled in 1989 from a hogshead, infusing the gentle peat of Bowmore with notes of candy and cocoa.

With only 184 bottles produced, you’re getting a taste courtesy of 61M x The Whisky Notes!

Lessons in the Dram

The Whisky Agency was founded by Carsten Ehrlich in 2008. He was also one of the founding forces behind The Whisky Fair in Limburg, one of the world's most renowned annual whisky gatherings. Despite their elusive online presence, they have a regular release schedule of superb single casks, often in collaboration with some of the most respected whisky bars and retailers. The Whisky Agency's labels include The Perfect Dram, Liquid Library, Private Stock, and Liquid Sun.

Description

This whisky is a non-disclosed single malt from the Orkney Islands, jointly bottled by two independent bottling powerhouses. While The Whisky Agency is an independent bottler with a global presence in whisky specialty shops and bars, Three Rivers whiskies are bottled almost exclusively for Japan market. As such, bottles from Three Rivers are a rare sight outside of Japan, even among independently bottled Scotch whiskies.

This limited joint bottling had only 340 bottles produced, and you’re tasting it with us!
